Counseling

From the Counselor

Dear Chief Joseph Families,

My name is Miranda Mahorney and I’m your child’s school counselor. This is my 2nd year at CJ and my 15th year as an elementary school counselor.

A little about my school counseling program- I’m considered a specialist and will teach your child, K-6th grade, weekly 30 min. school counseling lessons. These lessons are district approved.  The main curriculums I will be teaching are Character Strong and Second Step. See my schedule of lesson topics.  As a parent, I want transparency as to what is being taught to my child. You may reach out to me and come see any/all of my lessons. I will send a parent letter out prior to any sensitive lessons being taught to your child such as Personal Safety lessons.

I also meet with students in small grade-level groups to work on social skills, once a week during lunch. Students are referred by teachers and or parents. Parent permission is required.

Please note – I am not a mental health therapist and will not be providing  therapy to your child. However, I can help refer parents to community resources.

I look forward to working with your child this year!

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
